The Annual October Fast for Trinity Church of God in Christ has begun. There are so many things that we want and need to lay before the LORD. Humbling ourselves to seek God is our Heavenly Father’s way of helping us to experience His power and intervention in our lives.
We are fasting and praying because we desire a closer walk with God. We are making our church and families a priority. Breakthroughs, healing, and restoration are needed in our community and the world, and WE BELIEVE GOD TO DO IT.
Set aside 4, 6, or 8 hours each day fast.
Keep fasting simple (no food or drink).
Drink water if needed to remain hydrated (it's for your health)
Select something in the Bible to read and meditate on each day. A good rotation could be to read from one of these each day:
A chapter in Psalm
A chapter in the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John)
A chapter in the book of Acts
A chapter in the Book of Revelation
A chapter in one of the epistles of Paul
A chapter in one of the epistles not written by Paul
A chapter in one of the prophets (Isaiah through Joel)
Pastor Timothy T Scott Jr
Today our example is Daniel, who chose to fast. He directed his focus toward the Lord God. He was intentional in seeking the Lord with prayer, supplications, and fasting. May this season of reset help us make FASTING a regular and consistent part of our lives and our walk with God.
Daniel 9:3 KJV – 3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
Today, Ezra is our example of fasting with a purpose. With a spoken purpose, fasting gains commitment and effectiveness. So, proclaim your fast.
A proclamation is an announcement declaring that something is true or properly identified. This is much like naming something. Adam did this as God brought the living creatures to him to name them.
The truth here is about introducing certainty into your FAST.
Ezra 8:21 – 21 Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
Today, Ezra is our example of the humility of fasting. Follow his example and proclaim, I AM HUMBLING MYSELF WITH FASTING. The word afflict is not intended to convey personal abuse, but personal submission or yielding to the strength of another.
The truth here is letting God CARRY YOU. Humility and submission are acknowledgments that I could use my own strength, but fasting is allowing the LORD’s strength to be my strength.
Ezra 8:21 (KJV) — “Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.”
Some of us have been directed to take nothing by mouth before a medical procedure. The strength of our commitment to follow through is reinforced by knowing that someone is monitoring us, even though we may not see them. That knowledge helps us remain committed to what we have been instructed to do.
Physically, Ezra and those with him were fasting at the river of Ahava. Spiritually, they were fasting before their God. They could not see God with their natural eyes, but they fasted with the awareness that God could see them. The conviction that our fasting places us before the eyes of God is needful to maintain our commitment to humbling ourselves with fasting.
Today, Ezra is our example of giving God something to see. The truth here is that FASTING HAS AN AUDIENCE. There is only ONE IN THE AUDIENCE. Knowing that God sees us strengthens our commitment to continue.
So, we fast before our God.
Ezra 8:21 (KJV) — “Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.”

DAY 05 | SOLE SOURCE SUPPLIER — Ezra 8:21
A supplier is designated as a “Sole Source” when only one supplier is capable of providing the required product or service. There is no reasonable competitive alternative.
Ezra directed the people to look to God as their SOLE SOURCE PROVIDER or SOLE SOURCE SUPPLIER. For them, God would not be one of several options in a bidding process. Their fasting acknowledged this. They fasted TO SEEK OF HIM.
Today, Ezra is our example of acknowledging God as the One and Only One. The truth here is that FASTING IS NOT SHOPPING AROUND. There is only ONE. We must waste no time or energy looking to other things or considering other options. Fasting is our way of narrowing our focus and directing our expectations toward God.
So, we fast TO SEEK OF HIM. There is no reasonable competitive alternative to OUR GOD.
Ezra 8:21 (KJV) — “Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.”
